Home Decor: Accent chair Freecycle UK

Currently have this accent chair in the corner that literally no one ever sits on.

I knitted the two cream cushions on the chair a few years back. I am not ready to let go of them just yet!

It doesn’t go with anything in the house and I cannot wait to get rid of it. But just because it doesn’t work for me, doesn’t mean someone else can’t use it. So, I will be posting it onto the freecycle website when I know my furniture delivery date. A friend of mine told me about it a few years ago and since then I’ve used it to get rid of unwanted items that are in perfectly good condition. I used the website when I changed the size of my bed from a double to a king-size, and the British Heart Foundation charity collected the bedframe, but said they couldn’t take the mattress, which made no sense to me at all, but the guy was incredibly unhelpful about explaining why he wouldn’t take a free mattress to sell for charity. So I posted it on the freecyle website and it was gone the next day.

I have ordered a new chair to go in that corner with a matching footstool for an ideal reading spot, I cannot wait to share it! We (the Blake clan) went to dfs yesterday and ordered it with the help of Stuart who was amazing and so helpful. He even cut a bit of the swatches so I could go and match my curtains! You can see the new curtains are already up, which I got from Dunhelm.

Close up of the new curtains. I did like the old ones, and they were much more expensive, but it was definitely time for a change!

I really like the combination of the grey and brassy tones. So excited about how it will look in the end!

  1. I’m glad you give used things no longer needed to charity or Freecycle. We also give items to charity or sell it on Kijiji (a free website for buying and selling) it keeps things out of landfills. 🙂

  2. Ooh, I love that chair! I’m a chronic chair hoarder but over the years and all my recent moves, I’ve had to winnow down my collection to my favorite 4. And in a few more years when I make the move to California from NY by car (small car), only one will be graced with a spot in the car for the move.

I used to use Freecycle a LOT, for both giving AND getting, but people here got so irresponsible, scheduling pickups and not showing, or promising things that would be gone when I got there (on time!). I finally just gave up. I’ve gone back to CraigsList and asking even a small amount of money for things – I find that once they’ve committed their dollars, they’re much more likely to actually show up.

    1. That’s a shame but you’re right – when people have comitted some money they will come, although I’ve been lucky so far. I haven’t really used Craigslist, just things like gumtree. I have found that some facebook groups can also be good. I managed to get a rocking chair for free through a facebook group that the Women’s Institute had set up.
